Even though Carbon Poker Mobile U.S. have been offering real money iOS & Android poker in the United States for many months now, it is still welcome news that New Jersey has followed in the footsteps of both Delaware and Nevada in gaining a license to legalise online gambling. In what’s been a long, drawn out process, the Garden State has finally got the green light and has managed to capture one of the biggest casinos in the world, Virgin Casino, to come on board as an initial ambassador.
Whilst New Jersey is technically the third state in the US to gain the right to legalise online gambling, they are actually the first to roll it out to their constituents. Nevada and Delaware both have the power to do this, although they are still yet to complete their ‘soft trial’ period.

One of the biggest reasons as to why the state were so keen to get the green light is undoubtable the money side. H2 Gambling Capital’s recent study into the effect the legalisation of gambling could have on the economy pointed out that a possible £50million in revenue would be generated along with over 20,000 new jobs created.
Sceptics argue that the policing of such laws will likely cut a massive hole into the potential profits and that the downsides will likely, in the long term, out way the negatives. This comes on the back of information that players are only allowed to play within the state of New Jersey and that they will be tagged by GPS at all times whilst playing. This is called, geo-tagging.
Unfortunately, many players in New Jersey have been having problem activating the new poker apps due to weak WiFi signals. To fix these teething problems, many of the poker operators have stared sending our free USB dongles that fix the vast majority of issues by boosting players WiFi signals so that they meet the requirements set down by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
Whatever the views of the residents of New Jersey, this law is going ahead and the gambling industry will be watching with very interested eyes. It should yield the way for more states to follow the lead of New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada, but a return to the ‘glory days’ of online gambling still remains someway off.
Party Poker first ‘legal’ poker app in the United States App Store
The news that online gambling is starting to become legal in a number of US states will be music to the ears of a number of high profile gambling outlets, with none more so than that of Party Poker. The company have been one of the largest online poker rooms for a number of years now but have struggled to survive since the remittance of the US market.
The return has seen Party Poker scramble for the note pad to make sure that they were first to get their app released into the market. Whilst Apple have always had strict rules about who they allow into their App Store- often with gambling sites feeling much of the brunt – Party Poker have managed to swindle their way in with the lift in legislations from New Jersey. New Jersey can download the app by clicking here.
For the time being, only players from within the New Jersey state will be able to use the app due to its location tracking software that has to be used in conjunction with state laws. As more states start to lift the ban on online gambling, the app will then functional in many more areas.
What this should do is prompt the rest of the poker community into producing products dedicated for the App Store, even if it’s temporarily for the state of New Jersey. When the poker industry was at its peak you had companies going head to head creating the most innovative products possible and that’s hopefully what will happen again in the not so distant future.
888 App Leading The Way for United States iPhone, iPad & Android
A cold and frosty December morning in New Jersey might have just been one of the most significant in the online gambling industries –relatively – short history. The uplifting of the ban on online gambling from within the Golden State was approved and a new opportunity arose for both current and new online gambling sites.
888 Poker were the first company to successfully get their app to be entered into the app store. Whilst it was a little surprising to hear that this company were the first, they certainly won’t be the last and it could signal the start of some happier times for the online gambling and online poker industry in particular.
It will be interesting to see exactly which direction the online poker industry goes and the acceptance of the 888 poker app into the App Store will likely see many try to follow in their footsteps. What it does show is that there is still a society that is willing to accept the online gambling industry after its tarnished reputation has been dragged through the miser somewhat over the past few years.

Another interesting point this sort of statement makes is where the future of online poker in particular, is heading. Within just a few weeks of the state law being passed in New Jersey to legalise online gambling, companies were already running for their mobile devices and getting these launched as soon as possible.
The future of mobile poker is still a little uncertain, but when you see companies such as 888 and Party Poker almost offering up their app before their poker room, it does signify which road they think the online poker industry is going to take.
If you don't want live in New Jersey, remember you can still play real money poker on any iOS, Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone device at any of these US friendly mobile poker rooms.
